These articles have been written in response to our clinical experiences over many years at the Balancing Center. Our comments and discoveries are not presented as the result of scientific research, since we do not perform double-blind cross-over controlled studies with placebos, single-nutrient deprivation, or animal experiments. However, we have come across some useful discoveries that we have verified, over time, on an individual basis in our clinical practice.
Every now and then we will present a new article describing something we have observed that may be of interest to health practitioners, researchers in nutritional biochemistry, and people with health questions who are searching for non-medical health information.

Fluoride: A Second Look

In the presence of fluoride, bones become weak and brittle, subject to fracture, and the connective tissue and collagen structures within the fibro-cartilage matrix become so scattered that calcium is drawn into places where it normally would not go. This confusion creates spurs and jagged deposits of calcium around the joints, resulting in painful immobilizing osteoarthritis. And along with it, a greater risk of bone cancer has been reported in artificially fluoridated areas. What we usually see, as a result of fluoride toxicity, is mental confusion, depression, low thyroid, and often non-specific painful bladder irritation, known as interstitial cystitis. Ironically, fluoride damages tooth enamel, and does not protect the teeth from cavities.

Don’t let your dentist set your children up for this tragedy with fluoride treatments! If he recommends fluoride, don’t get on his case, he would never hurt your children purposely. He just hasn’t stayed in touch with the new findings. Since you know that fluoride is cumulative and could devastate your children in later life, you are in a position to say NO to the treatments. Let yourself be called a “crank.” Let yourself observe his dismissive smile, listen to his discounting comments, and let that all go. What he thinks of fluoride, and what he thinks of you, is unimportant. Your priority is your kids.

You can protect your kids with high calcium foods, (carrots, sunflower seeds, greens, organic milk, and trace minerals that contain molybdenum,) change to non-fluoridated toothpaste, limit the sugar, and eliminate cola drinks. Then clear out any accumulated fluoride from years of drinking toxic water, colas, and well-meaning dental exposures. To release residual fluoride, take DMAE.

The value of municipal fluoridation is beginning to be seriously questioned, and the negative impact is beginning to be documented and publicized more widely. Since fluoride exposure is cumulative, significant health problems are starting to show up. There is enough fluoride in a tube of Crest to kill a small child. Fluoride drops are given to babies as a “supplement” by pediatricians, and on top of this, fluoride rinses and gels are given to children by dentists, and put into children’s vitamins. Fluoride pills are often given to pregnant mothers. People are being exposed to levels of fluoride that go far beyond the amount added to the water supply, but even that level is considered to be an on-going risk.

Below is a list of some health effects of fluoride, cited in the book Fluoride, the Aging Factor, by Dr. John Yiamouyannis.

1. Fluoride disrupts the connective tissue, causing excessive cross-linking, cysts, and premature aging of the skin.
2. Bone deposited under the influence of fluoridation may appear dense, but it is brittle, weak, and susceptible to fracture. Hip fracture is being reported far more frequently in fluoridated areas than non-fluoridated areas.
3. Many comprehensive studies have been conducted that involved enormous numbers of children, comparing the fluoridated group to the controls, in an attempt to demonstrate that fluoride prevents tooth decay. Unless the data can be edited, rearranged and manipulated, no difference can be shown.
4. Normal neurotransmission of acetylcholine in the brain is diminished by fluoride, and this has been implicated in learning disabilities, and as a contributor to the development of Alzheimer’s.
5. Fluorine replaces some of the iodine required by the thyroid, causing a hypothyroid condition that needs pharmaceutical drugs to help with fatigue, hair loss, and weight gain.
6. When fluoride attaches to serotonin it is inactivated, causing depression. (Our thinking now is that it doesn’t deactivate the serotonin, it attaches to the receptor sites, and prevents the access of serotonin in that way.)
7. Fluoride exposure compromises the immune system, suppressing the NK-cells, and allowing susceptibility to infectious diseases, and may also initiate the formation of bone and liver cancers.
8. Fluoridated water was given to prisoners in Germany by the Nazis, to keep them docile, confused, and easily controlled.

At the Bioenergy Balancing Center we recommend that all fluoride sources be avoided. You can protect your teeth by limiting the sugar and eliminating cola intake, and taking trace minerals, particularly molybdenum, which really does strengthen the teeth and bones. Molybdenum is an essential nutritional requirement, and has no side effects. Xylitol, although dangerous for dogs, is a wonderful sugar substitute for humans, with a very positive effect: it protects the teeth.

A More Technical Appraisal of the Hazards of Fluoride

Fluoride causes chalky white spots in the teeth, weakens the strength of tooth enamel, can cause pits and dark spots, but what we generally observe is white opaque patches. A normal tooth is a clear off-white, and slightly translucent. Fluoridated teeth become brittle, crack easily, and wear down unusually quickly under pressure of grinding or TMJ tension. More dental work is required in areas of fluoridation than non-fluoridated areas, oddly enough.

As we trace the sequence of the methionine cascade, everything works well up to S-adenosyl homocysteine. At that point, fluoride enters the cascade and attaches to this metabolite.

At the Balancing Center we have observed that fluoridated homocysteine is more likely than regular plain homocysteine to create injury to the intima of the arterial lining. This could turn out to be the real culprit, it could be what injures the lining, and invites platelet defenses, calcium, oxidized cholesterol attachments, causing arterial clogging that is more rapid and virulent than the plain homocysteine that is being currently implicated. Not sure of that. More information, more cases need to corroborate it before we can validate that hypothesis.

The major metabolic avenue that regulates homocysteine involves the addition of a tiny amino acid called serine. That part of the pathway is probably intact, since cystathionine and cysteine do not appear to carry the fluoride radical.

Fluoride can attach to proline. When it does, it alters the structure of collagen. The damage appears as thickening and stiffening of cartilage surfaces, and tighter binding of joints, causing joint stiffness. If fluoride is carried by proline into fibrocartilage matrix that contains calcium attractors, then inappropriate deposits of flaky bone material appear as painful spurs, forming rough edges between and around the bones. The diagnosis, in this case, would likely be osteoarthritis.

As the bone is remodeled, the formation of the original bone is gradually replaced by brittle bone material, susceptible to fracture. Higher incidence of hip fracture in fluoridated areas has been well established.

By setting up proliferation of inaccurate collagen in the lungs and skin, fluoride invites excessive cross-linking and thickening among the supportive tissues of the skin, observed as wrinkling and loss of elasticity. In conjunction with a mycoplasmic infection, it can lead to an incapacitating fibrous condition of the lung tissue.

The accuracy of the thyroxine synthesis is changed by fluoride, since fluorine can replace the iodine on the tyrosine’s phenyl structure. When thyroxine carries a fluorine ion, it cannot be used. Medical tests, however, indicate that the thyroxine level is normal, even though symptoms of thyroid deficiency persist. Hypothyroidism by now has become virtually rampant, due to widespread fluoride toxicity, because fluoridated thyroxine is unable to function. However, fluorine contamination does not affect parathyroid hormone or calcitonin.

Fluoride suppresses the immune system by causing the inaccurate synthesis of white cells, and in combination with aspartame, this contributes to lymphocyte anomalies. Now the body will be susceptible to viruses, bacteria, fungus infections, and parasites. Since diet coke contains both high fluoride and aspartame, it is essential to avoid this hazardous beverage.

Another important effect of fluoride ingestion that we have seen is that the serotonin it cannot access its own receptor sites. Then the percentage of the serotonin that is blocked at the receptor sites creates a shortage of the available serotonin. The perceived shortage, if it is severe enough, creates depression and despair, as well as insomnia.

Fluoride can cause irritation of the bladder lining, known as cystitis, is ordinarily considered to be an inflammation of unknown origin. It is neither an infection nor an allergy, but at this point our clinical experience indicates that the lining can become irritated and inflamed by high fluoride intake. There may be other reasons, certainly mycoplasma can do this, and so can a fungus infection, but fluoride is one to ask about if the remedies for those other possibilities are not working.

The literature suggests that fluoride plays a significant role in the development of cancer. A significant increase in cancer is being reported in fluoridated areas, particularly bone cancer, and liver cancer. That is a likely possibility, but so far we have not specifically identified that connection.

Frequently children’s mouths are bathed in fluoride gels, and routine rinses are given by the dentist during cleanings, and they are even prescribed fluoride pills. Some pediatricians prescribe fluoride drops for babies. Many young people have been exposed prenatally. Most people use fluoridated toothpaste. The fluoride content of the water supply is not totally responsible for creating the full impact of accumulated fluoride effects, it is in the fruit juices and commercially prepared beverages. It is a constant and persistent exposure, and because it accumulates over time, the amount that people receive and retain is over the limit.

Long term ingestion of just one part per million can create significant health changes. That is the allowable level for tap water. When the exposure is substantially higher, as it is after adding up all these other sources, children in the coming years may experience some painful but predictable consequences, unless we can protect them and inform them of these hazards now, while they are kids.

To avoid fluoride, you can install a reverse-osmosis filter system. Other filtering systems may also be excellent, and you can check them out with people who sell filter systems.

If you learn how to use a pendulum, this will help you to feel empowered and secure. Then you can thread your way through the toxic obstacle-course at the store without anxiety.

Change your toothpaste if it has fluoride in it. Even though there isn’t much of an exposure from toothpaste for adults, kids do swallow it, particularly if it has been sweetened and flavored with cherry or other tempting flavors.

To strengthen your children’s teeth, minimize their sugar intake, and give them molybdenum. For kids, one once a week for these traces is usually enough. Molybdenum actually does heal small cavities, I’ve seen the x-rays.  If you drink wine regularly, and/or eat sulfured apricots regularly, extra molybdenum will detoxify the sulfites by changing them to healthful sulfates.

To release an established fluoride exposure, try DMAE. Several companies make it. It is considered to be an enhancement for the brain—and indeed, it certainly is. When the body has sufficient DMAE, accumulated fluoride can be released. DMAE is readily available in the health stores.

Some people can synthesize their own DMAE, and can handle minor fluoride exposures without harmful effects. But, for the most part we are seeing that fluoride plays a significant role in depression, confused thinking, hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue, painful cystitis, as well as bone spurs, stiff painful joints, diminished NK activation, and consequent immune deficiency. It doesn’t have to be that way for you or your family, if you make the decision to release the fluoride load.

Sources of information: You may still be able to get the book by John Yiamouyannis from Amazon on the Internet. It is out of print but sometimes they can find copies for you. It is Fluoride, the Aging Factor. It describes who makes the fluoride, why it is being sold to us, and how easily the dental community was convinced of its efficacy, and how the unsubstantiated myth that fluoride prevents cavities became an “unarguable truth” in the minds of the public.

Another terrific book that goes into more depth and more history, not to miss, is The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson. He tells about the origins of the fluoride deception, starting with the Atomic Energy Commission. The refinement of Uranium generated a tremendous amount of fluoride, which drifted over into neighboring houses and farms, etched the glass on their windows, killed their cattle, and sickened the people with tragic and disabling illnesses that had no remedy available.

Until recently this information was held secret. The people who were being injured were lied to, and told (threatened) not to complain, because the Atomic Energy Commission must not be challenged. Patriots don’t complain. Patriots are expected to make sacrifices for their country.

Bryson’s book is very thorough, well written, goes into fascinating detail, with documentation that is unassailable. It is well known that fluoridating the water supply was promoted by not only misleading persuasion but veiled threats made to dentists and health authorities, and from there to the general populace, under the disguise of protecting us from dental caries. It is very interesting to observe the intense passion that this issue continues to arouse in people, on both sides of this issue.

For some reason fluoride holds a tremendous emotional charge. EMF exposure is equally destructive, but you rarely hear impassioned opposition, or strong arguments in its defense. Most people think of EMFs as “Oh, well, that’s just what’s out there.” Have our cell phones told us not to complain? Are they worth the cost of the projected health effects? This toxin feeds itself. No opposition, no reality check, no passion.

There are many websites that talk about the impact of fluoride now, as the information is beginning to become more widespread. Scope it out. talks about FAN, the Fluoride Action Network.

Another source of information, from Nexus Magazine in Australia, is called Fluoridation: Mind Control of the Masses. You might think it sounds cynical, at first, but this is something that nutritionally aware people need to seriously consider. It suggests the underlying intention of fluoridation. After you read this you will have a better understanding of why it is socially, intellectually, and politically essential to protect yourself and your children from being mentally disenfranchised. And get an EMF deflector, while you’re at it.
